Last night, a group of SSP sophomores and freshmen attended a special presentation from Ian R. Welham, Co-founder and President of Complete College Planning Solutions, as part of the College Readiness Pilot. This new initiative seeks to provide resources and support for SSP students and they transition from high school to college. Mr. Welham is a nationally recognized expert on the college application process. Each year, he assists thousands of families in decoding the complex landscape of financial aid and other facets of applying to a college or university.

Mr. Welham’s presentation was incredibly informative for our students, particularly regarding the differences between types of financial aid and how best to navigate them. Students were also interested to hear his outlook on being a competitive applicant. Questions about  SAT scores and which clubs are most impressive yielded information that will prove invaluable to our students. Mr. Welham also reviewed the differences between merit-based aid and need-based aid and reviewed sample college financial aid packages.

We are incredibly satisfied with last night’s event and are thankful for Mr. Welham’s attendance and knowledge. We also would like to thank the mentors in attendance for supporting their student in this exciting journey to graduation!
