Why did you get involved with SSP?

My older sister and her husband worked with an SSP student for four years when I had just moved back to the city after college. I saw the positive experience they had, and I thought  it would be a great way to give back after all of the incredible educational experiences that I have had.

What has been the most rewarding part of mentoring with SSP?

The most rewarding part of the experience with SSP was definitely a Wednesday in March– we got a very excited phone call from Leticia saying that she had gotten into every college she had applied to and that she was happily choosing between Harvard and Yale. Tears just sprang into my eyes, and we couldn’t be happier for her. All the hard work she put in over the last four years has really paid off.

Why should others get involved with the program?

I think others should get involved with SSP because it is the perfect way to get involved with the community. It is real life and you get as much out of it as you put in. You learn more from your student than they probably learn from you. It’s been an incredibly rewarding four years, and I’d recommend it to anyone.
