Why did you get involved with SSP?

I had a friend who was involved with the program as a Sponsor, and he said it was something I would be interested in. I went to a cocktail reception for SSP four years ago, and signed up. One of my biggest reasons for getting involved, and the thing I like most about the program, is the subset of students SSP focuses on. These students are not overlooked, but they are often underrepresented as far as these programs are concerned.

What has been the most rewarding part of mentoring?

When I met Jorbel, my mentee, he was so small and young as a ninth grader. And to see him grow and mature over four years into the fine young man he is now has been the most rewarding aspect of the program.

Why should others get involved with SSP?

I think that if you really want to be hands on, really give back and make a difference, and see closure from year one where a goal is given to year four when your student graduates I think this is the perfect program to get involved with.
