Welcome SSP’s Newest Flanigan Scholars!

For the last 29 years, SSP has worked hard to increase the graduation rate among low-income youth in New York City. As a result, nearly 90% of our seniors graduate from high school. However, the story does not end there. After graduating, over 90% of our graduating seniors attend a college or university. This is no small feat, as the application process can be grueling and the expenses associated with college can be great.

To meet this need, SSP unveiled an exciting new scholarship opportunity last fall. The Flanigan Scholarship targeted high-achieving SSP seniors, recognizing them for their hard work in honor of our late founder, Peter M. Flanigan. The award contains two parts: 1) A $10,000 scholarship per year to the college or university of their choice donated by the Kovner Foundation and 2) Top-notch college advising during the application process from R&R Education Consultants. Last year’s Flanigan Scholars will be starting their freshman year in college this fall and we couldn’t be more proud!

Now, SSP is proud to announce this year’s Flanigan Scholars! Many incoming seniors applied and out of the 10 highly qualified finalists, four winners were chosen:

Emely Camillo Cuello (St. Raymond Academy ’16)
Robert Payano (All Hallows High School ’16)
Victor Gautreaux Del Villar (Cardinal Hayes High School ’16)
Keren Agurcia (Aquinas High School ’16)

Congratulations to our Flanigan Scholars! This year is sure to be one for the booksFlanigan 4 & Denise!
