Student Sponsor Partners has partnered with MENTOR, the national mentoring organization, to offer training sessions for new and returning sponsors throughout the year. Please see the events page for details on upcoming sessions.

Academic Resources

Assist your student with the purchase of a low-cost computer through Per Scholas.

SSP® partners with Per Scholas – a nonprofit organization that brings computers to low-income children and families at the lowest possible cost.

Help your student with preparation for the Regents Exams.

This Web Site offers tools for extra tutoring and studying for the New York State Regents Exams. Encourage your student to take the practice tests.

Assist your student with the college application process.

Free SAT prep courses and other college counseling services are offered by community based organizations throughout New York City. Visit our College Resources page for a list of some of these for you and your student to explore.

SSP also periodically offers college readiness workshops for a limited number juniors and seniors, along with their mentors.  Check our upcoming events page for details.

Suggested Outings for Sponsors / Mentors and Students

New York City Arts Events

High 5 is a nonprofit organization that offers teenagers $5 tickets to arts events in and around New York City. The Theatre Development Fund offers inexpensive tickets to Broadway shows.

Staten Island Ferry

Get to know your student while taking a scenic ride past the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The Staten Island Ferry is much less crowded than the tourist boats, and it is free!

Brooklyn Bridge

Stroll across the mile long Brooklyn Bridge, reading historical markers along the way. Once in Brooklyn, walk along the Esplanade for views of the Manhattan skyline or head to Grimaldi’s Pizza for some of the best brick-oven pies around!

Office Tour

Invite your student to travel to your office after school one day for an experience of your office environment.

College Campus Tours

Take your student on a campus tour for the afternoon. Columbia, Fordham, NYU and many other schools all offer tours throughout the day.

City Tours

There are many guided walking tours offered throughout city neighborhoods, including those where SSP students live. Investigate Big Onion Walking Tours, Harlem Heritage Tours, and the Village Alliance.
