The Prospect Park Zoo is accepting applications for teen volunteers to act as Discovery Guides. These Discovery Guides staff the exhibit areas, run children’s activities and assist with special events.
Applicants must be at least 14 years old, have completed middle school, and have a strong interest in wildlife and conservation. They also need to be comfortable with public speaking, since they will be answering questions about animals and directing visitors around the zoo.

Summer Health Internship Program (SHIP)

SHIP provides a six-week summer placement opportunity for junior/senior high school students and freshman/sophomore college students who have expressed and interest in the health field. Students are exposed to a variety of careers in the health field as well as to health issues affecting their communities. SHIP students are encouraged to observe health professionals and inquire whenever possible about their career paths, education paths, job descriptions, and responsibilities. Students are placed three days per week for five hours each day, with mandatory didactic sessions once per week. These sessions encompass a full day and include lectures, field trips and other health related activities.
Students who successfully complete the Summer Health Internship Program will emerge with new found connections, job readiness skills and insight into the world of health care.

High School Junior Staff Internship Programs
High school students from all over New York City work together alongside museum staff to explore community, technology, and education at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. Interns begin with broad interests in technology, the arts or working with children. Each intern develops their interests into real work experience and skill sets that prepare them for college and careers. Students start off as volunteers, and as they gain more experience they earn an ascending stipend. Graduating interns are often selected to stay on as paid staff or to mentor new Junior Staff Interns.

Summer Junior Staff Interns assist educators with guided tours for visiting camp groups and take part in professional development workshops, fairs, and college workshops.
